The Salou City Council has commenced works on Barenys street, affecting Gaudí and Marie Curie streets, to transform the area into a green axis that will improve residents' mobility and quality of life.

The interventions focus on the section of Barenys street between Vial del Cavet and Carles Roig street. The aim is to create a more accessible, green, and safe space, with an investment of 1,900,000 euros. The project includes ample pedestrian space, two traffic lanes (one in each direction), parking areas, and a cycle lane connecting to the future Eix Cívic.
Between Vial del Cavet and Gaudí avenue, a new green zone will be developed, equipped with children's play areas and resting spaces, designed as an urban climate refuge for families to enjoy.
In addition to improving mobility, the works also involve the renovation and expansion of water, telecommunications, electricity, and sanitation networks. A new storm drain collector will be built to better manage rainwater runoff and enhance drainage capacity during heavy rainfall events.

"This is a very important initiative for the residents of this area as it will significantly improve mobility, access, and connections, while also providing green spaces, areas for families, and safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists."

Pere Granados · Mayor of Salou
Mayor Pere Granados emphasized that the transformation of the area is being undertaken with residents and their quality of life in mind, featuring modern infrastructure prepared for the future.
The works, with an estimated duration of six months, will cause progressive traffic disruptions. Starting September 14th, the section of Barenys street between Gaudí avenue and Pierre Vilar street will be closed. Between September 21st and 25th, access to Carles Roig street will be interrupted for the connection of the new storm drain. From September 28th, traffic on Barenys street will be limited to one lane towards the beach. The City Council advises following the temporary signage and alternative routes.
