Between 12 PM and 6 PM this Monday, approximately 234,000 vehicles returned to the metropolitan area, out of a total of 300,000 planned journeys for the day. In the province of Tarragona, traffic flowed smoothly throughout the day on key routes such as the AP-7 and N-340, the main connections to Barcelona.
The only significant congestion in the province was recorded on the N-340 near El Vendrell, affecting the stretch between kilometers 1,186 and 1,190 heading towards Barcelona. In contrast, the AP-7 experienced no stopped traffic along its route through the province.
The main traffic concentrations occurred on the AP-7, with significant queues between Vilafranca and Martorell heading north, due to an accident between Olèrdola and Santa Margarida i els Monjos. Traffic problems were also detected in La Roca del Vallès heading south. Additionally, a broken-down vehicle caused slow traffic and stops between Cardedeu and Llinars del Vallès in the direction of Girona.
To alleviate congestion, Trànsit enabled an additional lane in the opposite direction on the AP-7 between Vilafranca and Molins de Rei. In parallel, trucks violating circulation restrictions were removed in Martorell.
Other Catalan roads also experienced complications. On the A-2, near Igualada, an accident forced the closure of one lane towards Barcelona. Similar situations occurred on the C-17 in Parets del Vallès. Heavy traffic and queues were also reported on the C-31 (between Santa Cristina d’Aro and Llagostera, and between Calafell and Cubelles), on the N-II (near Tordera), on the C-32 (in Cabrera de Mar), and on the N-340 (in El Vendrell), all heading towards Barcelona.
The Catalan Traffic Service urged drivers to exercise caution and maintain "maximum concentration" at the wheel, following five traffic fatalities in Catalonia over the past three days, three of them motorcyclists. The agency reiterated the importance of respecting safe distances and checking vehicle conditions to prevent accidents and breakdowns that could worsen return journey delays.
