The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) has activated a special operation for Second Pentecost, anticipating the departure of 600,000 vehicles from the Barcelona metropolitan area towards Tarragona and the Costa Daurada, with particular impact on the AP-7.

From this Friday until Monday, one of the year's most significant mobility events is expected. SCT sources reported that on Friday, between 2 PM and 8 PM, 263,000 vehicles had already left the Catalan capital, representing 44% of the total forecast.
SCT Director Ramon Lamiel warned that the AP-7 will concentrate a large part of the traffic, especially as it passes through Tarragona. To alleviate congestion, additional lanes and other special measures will be implemented to improve traffic flow.
The main mobility peaks are anticipated for this Friday around 7 PM and Saturday between 12 PM and 1 PM. For the return journey on Monday, Trànsit calculates approximately 300,000 vehicles returning, marking the most significant return operation of the year.
In total, the SCT will deploy over 150 kilometers of special traffic measures. In parallel, the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police) will reinforce road surveillance with 1,260 officers and 1,022 controls.
Mossos Commissioner Mònica Luis recalled that the main risk factors remain "excessive speed, distractions, and alcohol consumption," and urged maximum caution.
The SCT's primary objective is to prevent fatalities during this long weekend, particularly on high-intensity routes such as the AP-7, A-7, N-340, and the access roads to the Costa Daurada.
