In June, external sales from companies in the Tarragona demarcation amounted to 1,037.6 million euros, a 2.1% increase compared to the previous year. This growth occurred despite a significant rise in external purchases, which climbed 26.2% to 1,582.9 million euros. This resulted in a trade deficit of 545.3 million euros, a figure 238.4 million lower than that recorded a year ago.
According to the Monthly Foreign Trade Report published by the Ministry of Economy, chemical products continue to be the main focus in both exports and imports. Sales of these products reached 418 million euros, while imports amounted to 238.6 million euros, representing 39.2% of total sales and 30.6% of purchases, respectively.
Consumer manufactured goods rank as the second-largest export product group, with sales valued at 160.9 million euros. Although external sales in this sector saw a 15.6% decrease in June, imports also fell considerably by 44.7%, settling at 75.4 million euros.
For the first half of the year, accumulated exports from companies in Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre total 6,083.3 million euros, a 6.2% growth that accounts for 3% of Spain's total exports. Imports during this period reached 9,242.5 million euros (4% of the national total), with a semestral increase of 8.3% in the demarcation. The accumulated negative balance in the first six months of the year stands at 3,159.2 million euros, an improvement of 2,806.3 million compared to the previous year.
