The Tarragona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya have officially opened the new seating sections at the Sports Palace, finishing a project pending since 2018.

Eight years after its initial construction for the Mediterranean Games, the arena is finally complete. The project installed seven retractable stands at court level, adding 1,896 seats. This brings the total capacity of the venue to 4,210 spectators.
The 700,000 euro investment was funded by the regional government. The automated system allows the stands to be opened or closed quickly, making the facility more flexible for various sporting and cultural events.

"This is a long-awaited day that will allow us to host top-level events. The Sports Palace is a key facility in consolidating Tarragona as a leading sports capital."

The upgraded arena will debut during the basketball Queen's Cup, scheduled from March 26 to 29. Sports Minister Berni Álvarez stated that this project settles a historical debt with the city.
