Tarragona Emerges as Catalonia's Second Largest Startup Hub

The region now hosts 97 innovative companies, trailing only Barcelona in the national tech ecosystem.

The Tarragona region has officially become the second-largest startup ecosystem in Catalonia, boasting 97 high-growth tech companies, according to the latest ACCIÓ report released in February 2026.

According to the study Analysis of the Startup Ecosystem in Catalonia 2026, Tarragona now accounts for 4.03% of the Catalan total, surpassing Girona (87 firms) and Lleida (46). Within the province, Reus leads with 33 startups, followed by Tarragona city with 19.

"This progress brings us closer in a solid and realistic way to the goal set for 2030 of reaching 3,000 startups."

The entire Catalan ecosystem has reached a record 2,403 startups, employing over 30,500 people. These companies generate a combined turnover of 2.947 billion euros, contributing significantly to the regional GDP.
