The Mediation and Conflict Resolution Unit (UMIRC) of the Tarragona Local Police successfully resolved 150 neighborhood disputes during 2025 in the city of Tarragona.

The specialized team managed a total of 186 cases throughout the year. These interventions focus on issues that affect community living but do not constitute criminal or administrative offenses.
Common conflicts addressed by the UMIRC include noise complaints, pet-related disagreements, and issues involving smoke or odors. The unit also facilitates dialogue in intercultural coexistence situations to reach voluntary agreements.

"The most important thing is that there is a willingness to resolve the conflict or, at least, to talk about it."

Joan Domènech Herrerias · Sergeant and Deputy Head of the Central Services Division
By providing a neutral and safe space for dialogue, the service aims to prevent the unnecessary judicialization of minor incidents and reduce social tension among residents in Tarragona.
