The Tarragona Provincial Council officially declared its support this Friday for the employees of International Paper and DS Smith in Valls and Montblanc following the recent announcement of plant closures.

President Noemí Llauradó read an institutional statement during the plenary session, urging the Generalitat to designate the facilities as strategic industrial sites. The move aims to protect the regional economy and maintain industrial activity in the Alt Camp and Conca de Barberà areas.
The council is demanding an immediate mediation and reindustrialization table. They have called on the company to suspend any irreversible decisions and implement a moratorium to explore alternatives, such as selling the facilities to new owners.
