This Sunday, August 2nd, the Port of Tarragona experienced a busy day with the simultaneous arrival of three cruise ships: MSC Virtuosa from MSC Cruises, Norwegian Dawn from Norwegian Cruise Line, and Viking Star from Viking Ocean Cruises. A total of 12,508 passengers passed through the Moll de Balears for embarkation, disembarkation, and transit operations.
With this operation, the cruise season at Tarragona Cruise Port has now recorded 37 calls and 68,263 cruise passengers since its start in early April. The forecast for this season anticipates 80 calls, which would mark a new record for the port, and 160,000 passengers.
The MSC Virtuosa and Norwegian Dawn made their maiden calls in Tarragona. The Viking Star, which had previously visited the city on June 21st, docked again. The MSC Virtuosa, a ship launched in 2021 with a length of 331 meters, arrived from Palma de Mallorca with 6,338 passengers.
The Norwegian Dawn saw 2,623 passengers disembark and 2,647 embark, beginning an eight-day itinerary. This vessel measures 294 meters in length and has a crew of 1,032.
Meanwhile, the Viking Star, measuring 228 meters in length, embarked 900 passengers for a seven-day cruise through the Western Mediterranean. This is its second call in the city, and it is scheduled for a total of four calls this season.
The current season has already recorded 37 calls and 68,263 passengers since April 16th. The projection of 80 calls and 160,000 cruise passengers solidifies Tarragona as an emerging destination in the sector.
