Local authorities in Tarragona are expanding their strategy to manage a pest that has been present since the 19th century. Key locations such as Parc de les Lletres Catalanes and Parc de Saavedra are being targeted with advanced treatments due to their high foot traffic.
“"This is the first year we are carrying out a much more complete treatment than what we have done until now."
The new approach includes endotherapy, which involves injecting phytosanitary products directly into the tree's vascular system. This method is safer for the environment as it prevents chemical drift. Additionally, physical rings have been placed on trunks to trap caterpillars as they descend to the ground.
