The Tarragona City Council has set July 10th as the date for the inauguration of the improvement works at the Fòrum de la Colònia and its surrounding streets, which are now pedestrian-only. These days, final touches are being made, such as installing panels to cover a large red pipe for cables under the bridge connecting the two parts of the archaeological complex, on Soler street.
The children's park now features planted vegetation, and installation work for its elements is complete. However, the placement of a specific type of tile on Cardenal Cervantes street has sparked controversy. A beauty salon owner on the same street has voiced concerns about the existing holes, which will be filled with sand in the coming days, due to the possibility that animals, pedestrian traffic, or rain could wash it away, particularly affecting the elderly and women wearing heels.
Despite these isolated criticisms, the overall assessment of the renovation is positive. The beauty salon owner, who opened her business shortly before the works began three years ago, highlighted the aesthetic improvement and the recovery of clientele, despite facing access difficulties and cleanliness issues during the construction process.
“"People couldn't even walk down the street. It was horrible, there was a lot of dirt. [...] I like how it has turned out. Overall, it looks very beautiful. The bridge is nice, the idea is very nice."
Citizens are already enjoying this new pedestrian zone, which aims to become a new urban hub for Tarragona, incorporating sustainable green spaces with native species from the gardens of Roman Tarraco.
