The city of Tarragona will host the XIII Literary Night this Friday, July 24th, at 10 PM, at the Far de la Banya lighthouse. The event, jointly organized by the Port Museum and the Public Library of Tarragona, this year carries the theme ‘Olga Xirinacs. Sea and literature’. For the first time in thirteen editions, the Literary Night is exclusively dedicated to a single author.
This special edition coincides with the reissue of the novel Zona marítima, celebrating its 40th anniversary, and the 90th anniversary of the Tarragona-based writer's birth. Readings from fragments of this work, closely related to Tarragona's port landscape and coastline, will be the guiding thread of the evening.
The novel Zona marítima, originally published in 1986, narrates stories influenced by the sea and the marine horizon in a Mediterranean city. The new edition, published by Cossetània Edicions, includes a prologue by Montserrat Palau Vergés, a professor of Catalan literature at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili.
The literary experience will feature musical accompaniment by guitarist Jorge Olsaneski, who will perform pieces inspired by the sea, such as ‘Mediterráneo’ by Joan Manel Serrat. The readers will be individuals connected to the city's cultural scene and the organizing institutions.
Vehicle access to the Far de la Banya esplanade will be open from 9:30 PM to facilitate public participation. The activity is free and does not require prior reservation.
