The TurisMarket trade fair opened this Monday, March 2nd, at the firaReus Events facilities, bringing together over 120 stands dedicated to hospitality professionals from Tarragona.

The third edition of this event highlights the importance of an industry that accounts for 26% of the GDP in the region. During the opening, ConfeCat president Santiago García-Nieto described tourism as a source of national pride and a key job creator.

"Tourism is a source of national pride. We are very saddened by the tourism tax increase which reduces competitiveness."

The event was marked by criticism of the recent tourism tax modification approved by the Catalan Parliament. Industry leaders like Berta Cabré from FEHT argued the measure lacks territorial balance and does not help seasonal diversification.
