The main novelty of this edition is the change in the reign protocol, where the winning comparsa from last year has chosen the Queen and the second-place finisher, the Concubine. Thus, Anna Belén Romero of the Sinhus comparsa and Dani Medina of Urban Style will be the maximum representatives of the festival, which will feature about thirty participating troupes.
“"We can say that the Tarragona Carnival has become a reference festival locally, and initiatives such as the Disfressa d’Or or the Plaça de la Disbauxa constitute a significant step forward in this direction."
One of the central events, the Disfressa d’Or (Golden Costume), will return to the Caixabank Tarraco Arena on Sunday, February 8, presented by journalist Guillem Estadella and artist Gemma Polo. Previously, on Friday, February 6, the book Jutjant el Rei Carnestoltes (Judging King Carnival) by Jorge Pérez de la Torre, a historical compilation by La Colla La Bóta, will be presented at the Antic Ajuntament.
The construction of the Bóta (Barrel), this year themed around Roman Tarraco, and the presentation of the Ninots (Puppets), will also be key moments. Furthermore, the focus on nightlife has been strengthened with the inclusion of the FarraFest on Friday night at the Plaça de la Disbauxa, adding to the traditional Saturday night celebration.
