The Torredembarra City Council and Minister Núria Montserrat are coordinating the security and organizational plan for the total solar eclipse set to occur on August 12, 2026.

The Minister of Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Núria Montserrat, visited Torredembarra last Friday to hold an institutional meeting with the mayor, Vale Pino, and several members of the municipal corporation. Following the signing of the Golden Book of the Town, a working meeting was held to outline the coordination of the organizational and security arrangements.
The total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, will be the first visible from Catalonia since 1905, and a large influx of thousands of people is expected in the municipalities located within the path of totality. The Generalitat has highlighted the scientific, educational, and social dimension of the event, initiating preparations for security, health, and mobility.
The Catalan Government, together with the affected municipalities, has identified about twenty recommended observation points that meet criteria for safety, capacity, and accessibility. In Torredembarra, due to the low solar altitude on the horizon in the evening, the best place to observe the phenomenon will be the Roques Planes industrial estate, where suitable plots have already been identified to control capacity.
In Torredembarra, the totality of the eclipse will last 52 seconds. The start of totality is scheduled for 8:29:24 PM, with the maximum occurring at 8:29:50 PM, and a solar altitude of only 4.3° above the horizon.
