The Torredembarra City Council has presented an ambitious 12.4 million euro project for the Generalitat's Neighborhood Plan, focusing on the comprehensive renovation of the Old Town.

The Torredembarra council hopes the Generalitat will cover 70% of the total investment, with the remaining 30% coming from municipal funds. The plan includes 39 actions to be implemented over five years, between 2027 and 2031, aiming to achieve the 'largest investment ever made' in this area of the municipality.
Investments are divided into three main areas: physical transformations (approximately 4.6 million euros), environment and ecological transition (3.6 million), and the socio-economic sphere (3.2 million). Among the most significant physical actions is the rehabilitation of the first floor of the Castell dels Icart, which will house the Municipal Archive and the Neighborhood Plan Technical Office, freeing up space to expand the Citizen Attention Office (OAC).
Additionally, nearly 1.8 million euros will be allocated to aid programs for residential building rehabilitation, including the installation of elevators, accessibility improvements, energy insulation, facade renovation, and the implementation of solar panels and LED lighting.
In the ecological transition area, commercial routes with shade and climate comfort will be created using awnings and pergolas. The renaturalization and improvement of Plaça de la Vila, Plaça del Castell, and Plaça de l'Escorxador are also planned, featuring vegetation, shaded areas, and urban furniture to combat the urban heat island effect.
The socio-community line includes the installation of surveillance cameras, reinforcement of community policing, and a vehicle access control system. The old town hall will also be rehabilitated as a House of Popular Culture, and empty commercial spaces will be revitalized, with a budget of over 400,000 euros for their temporary reuse.
This project stems from a participatory process that gathered 400 contributions from 276 online respondents and 125 participants in citizen workshops. The ultimate goal is to improve quality of life, boost commerce, preserve heritage, and adapt the environment to climate change challenges, making Torredembarra a more sustainable and dynamic municipality.
