The city of Tarragona has suffered the consequences of a severe storm that, despite its short duration, caused significant water accumulation on streets such as Sant Pere and Gravina in the Serrallo district. The associated hail also led to material damage, including broken window panes.
The intense rainfall episode also directly impacted railway mobility. Lines R14, R15, and RT-1 were suspended between Móra la Nova and Reus due to the rain. To mitigate this, Renfe established an alternative bus service on line R15 between these two locations.
Between 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM, the Fire Department handled a total of 129 calls related to the storm. The majority, 107, were concentrated in the Tarragona emergency region, with 74 calls originating from the city itself. Common incidents included fallen trees and branches, minor flooding, and issues with electrical cables.
The emergency number 112 received a total of 373 calls by 7:00 PM, resulting in 259 incident reports. 70% of these calls came from the province of Tarragona, while 10% originated from Baix Camp.
The Meteorological Service had previously issued warnings, anticipating intense storms with hail, strong wind gusts, and phenomena such as squalls or tornadoes in various areas of Camp de Tarragona and Penedès.
