The Generalitat de Catalunya has officially awarded the main construction contract for the Camp de Tarragona tramway to a business consortium for a total of 135.8 million euros.

The joint venture, comprising COMSA, FCC Construcción, Syneox Rail, and the local firm Garcia Riera, won the public tender managed by Infraestructures de la Generalitat. The decision was published this Thursday, March 12, after evaluating eight different bids.
This first phase covers nearly 12 kilometers of track connecting Cambrils and Vila-seca. The project includes the installation of double tracks, 11 stations with 40-meter platforms, and the necessary urban redevelopment of the surrounding areas.

"The tramway will change mobility in the second largest metropolitan area of Catalonia."

The construction period is set at 25 months. While the main infrastructure lot is moving forward, a smaller contract regarding monitoring systems is currently on hold due to a legal appeal filed with the Catalan Public Sector Contracts Tribunal.
