Unemployment in Tarragona Rises 2.19% in July, Breaking Downward Trend

The province records 36,331 jobless individuals, 780 more than the previous month, according to Ministry of Labour data.

The Tarragona province recorded a 2.19% increase in unemployment in July, reaching 36,331 jobless individuals, which is 780 more than the previous month.

This figure breaks the downward trend that had been maintained since last December. In contrast to this year, unemployment fell by 1.58% in July of the previous year. Social Security contributions continue to rise, with 381,497 contributors in the province, 11,490 more than a year ago.
Female unemployment surpasses male unemployment, affecting 21,532 women compared to 14,799 men. The youth demographic under 25 years old totals 2,341 unemployed individuals. The services sector remains the most affected, with 24,802 people, followed by industry (3,171), construction (2,875), and agriculture (1,289).
Regarding hiring, 30,490 new employment contracts were signed, a 4.79% increase from June and 7.9% more than the previous year. Of these, 13,113 are permanent contracts, although this type of contract has decreased by 5.4% compared to June and 1.82% year-on-year. Temporary contracts, however, have increased by 14.07% monthly and 16.62% year-on-year. The services sector leads hiring with 23,909 employees.
At the Catalonia level, unemployment grew by 2.5% in July, adding 7,705 people and reaching a total of 314,874. Despite this monthly increase, the figure is 1.4% lower than last year, marking the lowest July record since 2007. The Lleida province experienced the most significant rise (3.4%).
Social Security affiliations in Catalonia reached 4,024,750, a 2.9% increase from a year ago. At the state level, unemployment rose by 0.85% in July, with 2,311,499 registered individuals.
