The Diputació de Tarragona announced at FITUR in Madrid that the Val de Zafan Greenway will be extended 27 kilometers to the Mediterranean Sea, completing a €6.3 million project set to open this spring.

The extension of the Val de Zafan Greenway, one of the most important tourist attractions in the Terres de l’Ebre region, links the area's two natural parks: Els Ports and the Delta de l’Ebre. This new section, which adds 27 kilometers to the existing route, has been promoted by the Diputació de Tarragona in collaboration with the municipalities of Tortosa, Roquetes, Amposta, and La Ràpita.
The project had a total budget of €6.3 million, with €5 million financed by the European recovery funds Next Generation. This extension offers a route completely segregated from motorized traffic, emphasizing safety and landscape diversity, while promoting sustainable mobility.

The completion of this route is key to revitalizing the territory and attracting family cycling tourism, a respectful audience interested in the heritage, culture, and gastronomy of the Terres de l'Ebre.

The works are in their final phase, despite delays caused by the autumn storm floods. Phase 1 (19 km) is nearly complete. Regarding Phase 2, 80% of the section has already been laid, and in the coming weeks, the final surface layer, signage, safety elements, and tree planting will be finished, allowing the opening this spring.
The presentation took place during the participation of the Diputació de Tarragona at the FITUR fair in Madrid, where the Costa Daurada and the Terres de l’Ebre are also being promoted. The Tourism Board has strongly committed to cycling tourism, coinciding with the celebration of four major international races in the region during 2026: the Tour de France, La Vuelta, the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, and the Clàssica de les Terres de l’Ebre.
