Workers from the International Paper plants in Valls and Montblanc marched through Tarragona this February 24 to oppose the planned closure of their factories.

The demonstration started at Plaça Imperial Tàrraco, highlighting a conflict that threatens 200 jobs. Union leaders state that while there are four potential buyers interested in the facilities, the company is currently refusing to sell.

"They want to eliminate competition, create demand, and raise prices."

The layoffs are scheduled to begin on March 19. Employees are currently on an indefinite strike and have warned they will take legal action if a solution to maintain the plants' viability is not reached during the upcoming technical meetings.
