Samuel Bonsu, a promising 13-year-old player from the Tarragona Handbol Club, became champion with the Catalonia selection at the Spanish Championship held from January 3 to 8, standing out as a tournament star.

The Sant Salvador neighborhood in Tarragona continues to be a hub for sporting talent. The latest example is Samuel Bonsu, who won the gold medal with the Catalan selection in the Spanish Championship of autonomous communities, held from January 3 to 8.

"He is not just another player, he is Samu. An experience like this is very enriching. Furthermore, he has shone there in front of important people. I am sure that a national level call-up will arrive soon."

Aurelio Tubilla · Coach and Founder of Tarragona Handbol Club
Bonsu, who played every match and scored 17 goals, is a product of the FIATEH (Training and Integration) solidarity project, launched 15 years ago by Tubilla. This initiative allows young people with limited resources, such as Bonsu and his family of Ghanaian origin, to access high-level sports.
His performance has attracted the attention of top-tier clubs like Granollers and Barça. Coach Aurelio Tubilla confirmed that talks have been held and that the best option for the young player would be the Masia, as it would allow him to combine studies and sports without the difficulty of daily commutes.
The FIATEH project not only trains players but also monitors and coaches, such as the brothers David and Divine Iyamu, who now help the senior team. This work is carried out thanks to the altruistic dedication of the board and coaches, including the club president, Enric Bort.
