Young participants from Tarragona's Trade School are working with the Municipal Brigade on public space maintenance and improvement, combining training with practical work experience.

Young participants in the Trade School of the Ponent and Sant Salvador neighborhoods of Tarragona are undertaking a practical collaboration with the Municipal Brigade. This initiative combines professional training with real work experience, focusing on the improvement of the city's public spaces.
The tasks they are carrying out include painting benches, restoring fences, renewing road signage, and recovering public paths. This collaboration has enabled the creation of mixed work teams, comprising professionals from the Municipal Brigade and the Trade School's student-workers. After just fifteen days, the initial results are already visible in various parts of the city, showing a significant increase in maintenance and conservation work.
The project, driven by the Tarragona City Council's Department of Tourism, Economic Promotion, and Commerce with support from the Generalitat de Catalunya, aims to transform the city into a real learning environment. Young people are acquiring practical knowledge by working alongside experienced professionals in municipal trades.

"The best way to learn a trade is by doing it. This collaboration allows young people to gain real experience in everyday work environments, while also contributing to improving the city and providing a useful service to citizens."

Councillor for Public Space and Head of the Municipal Brigade · Guillermo García de Castro
The Trade School is aimed at unemployed young people aged between 16 and 29, with the goal of improving their employability. This edition offers training pathways in content creation and social media management, forestry work, and restoration and painting rehabilitation. The initial phase includes technical training and transversal skills, followed by six months of practical work in municipal services.
As a new development, the Forestry Work and Restoration and Painting Rehabilitation teams are carrying out their activities in real-world scenarios, enhancing both their training and the public space's maintenance capacity. Councillor García de Castro notes that transferring professional knowledge to new generations benefits both the young people and the city.
