Republican Jordi Cacho, spokesperson for Tots som Perafort i Puigdelfí (ERC-AM), has been sworn in as the new mayor of Perafort following the approval of a censure motion that ended the long tenure of Joan Martí Pla.

The extraordinary plenary session held this Monday in Perafort confirmed the change in leadership of the council, with the removal of Joan Martí Pla, who had served as mayor for almost three decades. The censure motion, promoted by the municipal opposition, granted the mayoral office to Jordi Cacho, from Tots som Perafort i Puigdelfí (ERC-AM).
As expected, the motion was approved by a majority with three votes in favor from ERC-AM, the support of the Federació d'Independents de Catalunya (FIC) group, led by Lluís Massagués, and the vote of the Education councilor and mayor of Puigdelfí, Elisabet Albujar, who had left Martí Pla's party. The outgoing government team voted against with four votes.

"We have too often experienced a way of doing things marked by a lack of shared information, communication difficulties, and a dynamic that has not favored either internal communication or understanding among representatives."

In his inauguration speech, Cacho criticized the previous administration, although he acknowledged Martí Pla's time and dedication. The new mayor called on residents to 'break the fear of so many years' of Junts' governance, and justified the motion by an 'institutional deterioration' and the need for a 'new stage' based on transparency and communication.
One of the points of tension during the session was the integration study of the Secuita freight corridor, which would directly affect the municipality. Lluís Massagués, from the FIC, was particularly critical of Martí Pla on this issue. For her part, Elisabet Albujar reiterated that her decision was motivated by her 'principles' and 'disagreements' with the government team, appearing at the session wearing a T-shirt with the message 'Me la bufa' (I don't care).
Perafort's Carrer Nou was filled with expectant residents. At the end of the vote, Joan Martí Pla was bid farewell with applause. The former mayor announced his intention to run in next year's elections, criticizing Cacho's 'lack of experience' and the 'interests' of the new government. He concluded that 'they won the lottery without even buying a ticket'.
