The Salou City Council formalized its commitment to tourism sustainability on December 17, 2025, by approving its adherence to the prestigious Biosphere project.

This decision, made during the last municipal plenary session of the year, underscores Salou's strategy to align its tourism activity with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Joining Biosphere involves implementing criteria for responsible environmental, social, and economic management.
The Biosphere project is a recognized international certification that evaluates and acknowledges the efforts of tourist destinations to ensure balanced management that respects the environment and the local community.
With this measure, Salou, one of the main tourist hubs of the Costa Daurada, seeks to consolidate itself as a quality destination that prioritizes the conservation of its natural and historical heritage, as well as improving the visitor experience in the long term.
