The subsidy, amounting to 899,320 euros, is granted directly to COPATE after the previous four-year agreement expired last year. This provisional measure will allow treatments against the black fly to begin in the coming weeks, covering 50% of the total cost of the campaign.
“"It was very important to ensure that the Environmental Policy Consortium of the Ebro Lands (COPATE) can work smoothly and that people's activities and health are not harmed."
The remaining funding required for the campaign is shared between the affected municipalities (25%) and the Provincial Councils of Tarragona and Lleida (25%). The proliferation of these pests has severely impacted public health, quality of life, and agricultural and tourism activities in the affected areas, including Camp de Tarragona.
With this year's funding guaranteed, the Government is now working on drafting a new agreement for the 2027-2030 period. The new document will consider the need to update the costs of products and human resources, adapting to the current economic reality.
