The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) recorded four fatalities on the interurban road network of Catalonia during January 2026, marking a reduction of seven deaths compared to the previous year.

The accident balance for January 2026, published by the SCT, shows a significant reduction compared to the same month last year, when eleven fatalities were counted. Despite this decrease, the SCT emphasizes the vulnerability of the affected groups: two were motorcyclists and one was a cyclist.
The reduction is also notable in the number of serious injuries, dropping from 60 in January 2025 to 37 this January. Regarding the profile of the fatalities, two were men and two were women, aged between 25 and 64 years old.

It is necessary to maintain prudence and extreme precautions on the road, especially concerning vulnerable groups such as motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The four fatal accidents were distributed across the road network, with one incident recorded on the AP-7, the N-340, the C-243a, and the C-25. Geographically, the deaths were concentrated in the demarcations of Barcelona (in Alt Penedès, Vallès Occidental, and Bages) and Tarragona (in Baix Ebre). Three of the four incidents occurred during the weekend.
