The Civil Guard recently dismantled an organized criminal group in the Valencia region, arresting five people and investigating two others, for committing 58 high-value thefts in supermarkets across Spain, including establishments in Tarragona.

The investigation, which began last October, revealed that the perpetrators used a sophisticated method to steal merchandise. They traveled using rental vehicles to supermarkets in various provinces such as Valencia, Albacete, Alicante, Castellón, Cuenca, Murcia, Teruel, Zaragoza, and Tarragona.
Their modus operandi consisted of distracting an employee by simulating the payment of a low-value product. While the worker was occupied, the rest of the members removed entire carts full of high-value items, achieving a total estimated haul of 40,000 euros.

The group managed to steal carts full of high-value items, reaching a total estimated haul of 40,000 euros.

Following a search of the alleged leaders' residence in Gavarda, where cash and stolen items were located, four of the detainees were sent to provisional prison without bail by judicial order. The arrested individuals had numerous prior criminal records for similar robberies and breach of sentence.
The stolen items were subsequently resold in marginalized neighborhoods of the Valencian towns of Alberic, Carlet, and Torrent, thus completing the criminal cycle.
