The Civil Guard has dismantled an organized group in the Valencian Community, arresting five people and investigating two others, for their involvement in at least 58 thefts in supermarkets across nine provinces, including Tarragona.

The investigation, which began last October, revealed that the perpetrators used rental vehicles to travel to establishments in Valencia, Albacete, Alicante, Castellón, Cuenca, Murcia, Teruel, Zaragoza, and Tarragona.
Their modus operandi involved distracting an employee by paying for a low-value product, while the rest of the group stole carts full of high-value items, accumulating an estimated total of 40,000 euros.

The stolen items were subsequently resold in marginalized neighborhoods in the towns of Alberic, Carlet, and Torrent, generating considerable illicit profit.

Following a search carried out at the alleged leaders' home in the municipality of Gavarda, which located cash and stolen goods, four of the detainees were sent to provisional prison without bail by judicial order. The arrested individuals already had numerous criminal records for similar robberies in supermarkets and for breaching previous sentences.
