The Government Delegate of Spain in Catalonia, José Crespín, accompanied by the Deputy Government Delegate in Tarragona, Elisabet Romero, visited Port of Tarragona to gain firsthand knowledge of the projects driving its competitiveness and its role as a logistics hub.

The visit allowed for a detailed explanation of progress on key strategic infrastructures for the transformation of the Tarragona port's logistics model. Projects presented included the new multipurpose terminal at the Moll d’Andalusia, to be operated by the alliance between COSCO and PTP, and the intermodal terminals of La Boella and Guadalajara – Marchamalo. These infrastructures are crucial for generating new value chains, promoting economic dynamism, and territorial cohesion.
The president of the Port Authority of Tarragona, Santiago J. Castellà, highlighted the port's role as an economic engine for Catalonia and a cohesive agent for the metropolitan region. The new multipurpose terminal, with an investment of over 116 million euros and the creation of 180 jobs, will enable growth and diversification of traffic.
Emphasis was placed on the role of the intermodal terminals tandem, La Boella and Guadalajara-Marchamalo, in promoting intermodality and rail freight transport, leveraging the port's strategic location at the intersection of the Mediterranean and Ebro corridors.
José Crespín stated that "the Port of Tarragona is a strategic infrastructure for Catalonia and for Spain as a whole", highlighting its capacity to connect territories with major European logistics corridors and boost economic activity.
The meeting also addressed the drive for reindustrialization in Catalonia through the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) and the creation of an industrial ecosystem linked to floating offshore wind. The second phase of the Moll de Balears will receive 24 million euros from the Port EOLMAR funds for this sector.
Regarding sustainability, progress was mentioned on Onshore Power Supply (OPS) for cruise ships, photovoltaic energy plants, and the renaturalization of the Prats d’Albinyana area, a wetland recovery project covering 37 hectares.
