The Municipal Transport Company of Tarragona (EMT) presented the restructuring of its bus network on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to offer higher frequencies and better connections between neighborhoods.
The restructuring of urban transport lines is a key action to modernize the network and adjust it to new mobility habits, aiming primarily to improve service efficiency and user comprehension. The project plans to increase network coverage from 211 to 218 kilometers, ensuring that nine out of ten residents in Tarragona have a bus stop within a five-minute walk.

"This restructuring responds to the EMT's commitment to more efficient, accessible, and easy-to-understand public transport that addresses the real needs of the neighborhoods and the city as a whole."
Key improvements include the reorganization of the service in the Sant Salvador neighborhood, featuring increased frequency and a direct connection to the Joan XXIII Hospital. In the Ponent neighborhoods (including Icomar, Riuclar, Torreforta, Campclar, and Bonavista), direct connections to the city center are reinforced. For example, the new L-34 will connect La Floresta with the CAP in la Granja.
For Sant Pere i Sant Pau, the new L-60 line is introduced as a direct connection to the center, improving coverage and frequency. Furthermore, the extension of the L-55 will enhance connectivity with the area around Carrer Reial and the train station. In the urban center, the new L-20 line is created, merging lines L-21 and L-23 to improve operational efficiency.

"This restructuring represents a step forward towards having a more understandable public transport system, with better connections and a more regular service, reinforcing the role of the bus as a real alternative to private vehicles."
