“"Late last night, during negotiations with the Ministry, we made it clear that the farming community needed a further guarantee to make the Minister's words more tangible for all of us, by granting a meeting with the President of the Generalitat this afternoon. That is why we are lifting the mobilization in Tarragona."

Farmers belonging to Revolta Pagesa opened one entry and exit lane at the Port of Tarragona on January 12, 2026, after securing a meeting with President Salvador Illa to discuss the EU-Mercosur agreement.
After five days of continuous protests, farmers have agreed to open one entry and exit lane at the Port of Tarragona via the A-27 highway. According to the organization Revolta Pagesa, the intention is to fully lift this specific blockade throughout Monday morning, January 12. This gesture follows the confirmation of a meeting with the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, scheduled for the afternoon.
Despite the partial lifting of the port access blockade, the remaining road closures on major Catalan routes remain active. Blockades continue on the AP-7 at Pontós (Alt Empordà), the C-16 between Casserres and Berga (Berguedà), and the C-38 at Coll d’Ares (Garrotxa). In these three locations, the protest is exclusively restricting the passage of trucks.
These protest actions, which began last week, reflect the sector's dissatisfaction with negotiations regarding the European Union's agreement with Mercosur. The assemblies were held following a meeting on Sunday afternoon in Bàscara (Alt Empordà) with the Spanish Government's Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, who promised a meeting next week to form a 'common front' against the agreement.
