The mobilization, which travelled along the Rambla Nova, seeks public support against a pact they label as unfair competition and a health risk.

About thirty farmers staged their rejection of the Mercosur trade agreement with a symbolic march of tractors and cars along Rambla Nova in Tarragona this Sunday.

The protest, which drew some applause from pedestrians and people sitting on terraces, aims to appeal directly to citizen complicity. Farmers argue that the pact with South American countries constitutes "unfair competition" and will have negative effects on public health.

"There is a great lack of pedagogy; the agreement was passing very lightly through our society until the farming community stood up."

This action in the city centre of Tarragona adds to the ongoing mobilizations that have kept the main access to the Port of Tarragona cut off for the fourth consecutive day, highlighting the primary sector's persistence.
