The mobilization, which is part of protests replicated across the country and Europe, was called by Revolta Pagesa and involves about sixty vehicles, including tractors and cars. Farmers argue that the pact with the South American bloc would severely harm them economically.
“"The pact would also have consequences for consumers, since food produced in other parts of the world does not comply with the sanitary requirements that exist in Europe, a fact that they believe can be detrimental to health."
The Gremi de la Pagesia Catalana, through its president, Joan Regolf, highlighted concerns not only for the sector's viability but also for food safety. The demonstrators intend to maintain the blockade of the Tarragona port access until next Monday.
