The director of the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), Ramon Lamiel, expressed confidence in the total reopening of the southbound AP-7 section between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, based on forecasts provided by the Ministry of Transport. Lamiel shared this information during an interview on the RTVE program Cafè d'Idees.
“"If the Ministry has said it, then it will be so; we hope so and wish it to be true. They are working 24 hours intensely and are already reinforcing the entire structure."
Lamiel emphasized the intensive monitoring of the repair works and the "fluid and permanent" communication with the Spanish executive. The closure has been in place since Wednesday, following the collapse of a motorway wall on January 20, which caused the Gelida railway accident, resulting in the death of a trainee driver.
To minimize congestion, Trànsit continues to recommend that drivers use alternative routes such as the C-32 (which remains free of charge), the C-25, the C-15, the N-340, the C-58, and the B-40. The strategy involves diverting vehicles inland and towards the Penedès region, with reincorporation onto the AP-7 near Vilafranca.
Regarding the freight transport sector, Lamiel confirmed that opening a counter-flow lane during specific peak times was considered last week. However, this measure was ruled out to avoid excessive disruption to traffic heading towards Barcelona and to ensure operations are carried out with "great safety and robustness, not improvised."
