Óscar García sworn in as the new PP councilor in Tarragona

The computer engineer replaces Elisa Vedrina, who will focus exclusively on her role as a deputy in the Spanish Congress.

Óscar García, fifth on the Popular Party list, was sworn in as a councilor at the Tarragona City Council this Thursday, replacing Elisa Vedrina.

The new councilor for the Popular Party Municipal Group in the Tarragona City Council, Óscar García, formalized his entry into the consistory during an extraordinary plenary session held this Thursday morning. García, who was fifth on the party list in the 2023 municipal elections, replaces Elisa Vedrina, who resigned her seat to focus on her duties as a deputy in the Congress of Deputies.

During his speech in the Assembly Hall, García thanked his family, friends, and the party for their support, with a special mention to the spokesperson and provincial president Maria Mercè Martorell and the outgoing councilor Elisa Vedrina for her trajectory. He emphasized the importance of values such as honesty, transparency, dialogue, and institutional loyalty to be "up to what the citizens expect of us."
Óscar García, born in Tarragona on February 11, 1969, holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Since 2008, he has held responsibility roles in the Marine Technology Unit of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Barcelona, supporting national R&D&I policy in marine science and technology and polar programs.
The new councilor has extensive experience in data acquisition systems for the fleet of oceanographic vessels and polar bases, having actively participated in numerous international oceanographic campaigns, including the Juan Carlos I Spanish Antarctic Base. Since 2024, he has been a member of the Popular Party Provincial Executive Committee as undersecretary of Political Action.
