The province of Tarragona registered one road fatality during the month of January, according to the Servei Català de Trànsit, despite a significant statistical reduction compared to the previous year.

Official accident reports show that the Tarragona demarcation closed January with a single fatality, representing an 80% decrease from the five deaths recorded in 2025. However, the month was marked by several serious accidents involving victims clearly linked to the province.
The only fatal accident registered within the province occurred on Friday, January 23, on the N-340 near L'Ampolla, in the Baix Ebre region. A 30-year-old female driver died after her car collided with a wild boar at kilometer 1,101, causing the vehicle to overturn.
In addition to this incident, January saw three other fatalities in accidents that took place outside the province but were linked to Tarragona. On January 2, a married couple aged 68 and 64, residents of the Campclar neighborhood in Tarragona, died in a head-on collision on the N-122 road in Fuentelisendo (Burgos).
The third linked victim was a 56-year-old cyclist, a resident of Vilafranca del Penedès, who died on Sunday, January 25, on the C-243c in Subirats (Alt Penedès); his daughter works in Tarragona. The driver involved was arrested after testing positive for alcohol and drugs. Across Catalunya, Barcelona accounted for three fatalities, while Girona and Lleida registered none during the month.
