The agreement, approved during the plenary session on Friday, October 30th, requests the Council's incorporation as a consortium member of the CPNL. This accession must be ratified by the CPNL Plenary on November 9th. Once formalized, the Provincial Council of Tarragona will join the provincial councils of Girona, Barcelona, and Lleida, which are already part of the Consortium.
This accession holds significant institutional and strategic importance, as it will enhance collaboration between both organizations to promote initiatives aimed at fostering the knowledge and use of Catalan throughout the province. The role of provincial councils is crucial in implementing local public policies, providing institutional leadership, technical, and financial support.
For the CPNL, this incorporation will facilitate the advancement of its fourth strategic pillar, focused on local governance. This pillar includes supporting municipal institutions, strengthening language reception policies, implementing local Catalan promotion plans, and consolidating a network of municipal linguistic policy referents.
Upon the formalization of the Provincial Council of Tarragona's accession, there will be 142 public administrations as members of the Consortium for Linguistic Normalization. These include the Generalitat de Catalunya, 100 town councils, 37 county councils, and the 4 Catalan provincial councils. The CPNL, through its 20 linguistic normalization centers, works in coordination with public administrations to facilitate the knowledge, use, and dissemination of the Catalan language.
