The prestigious Forvm Collection of photography, acquired by the Generalitat, was deposited at the Tarragona Provincial Council Archive this Tuesday, April 7, where it will remain until its definitive transfer to the Museum of Modern Art of Tarragona (MAMT).

This collection, created by gallerists Chantal Grande and David Balsells, includes nearly 1,700 photographs by 311 renowned authors, such as Joan Fontcuberta, Francesc Català-Roca, and Sophie Ristelhuber, with works created from the 1950s onwards. The pieces will be preserved under optimal conditions in the archive, located in La Canonja.

"It is one of the most important collections in Spain and Catalonia; it represents a very significant leap for the national collection and for the museum."

Sònia Hernández · Minister of Culture
The Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández, highlighted the fund's relevance, emphasizing that its acquisition represents a "very significant leap" for both the national collection and the MAMT. From June until January 2027, the museum will exhibit a selection of 200 photographs from this collection, as part of the commemorative events for its 50th anniversary.
The president of the Tarragona Provincial Council, Noemí Llauradó, also praised the collection, stating that it places it at the same level as institutions such as the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) or the Reina Sofía. Llauradó explained that the Forvm Collection will become one of the main attractions of the new MAMT, which will be located in the current Palau de la Diputació.
The fund, created in 1981, includes works by photographers such as Gabriel Cualladó, Colita, América Sánchez, Oriol Maspons, Eulàlia Valldosera, Joaquim Gomis, Agustí Centelles, Joan Colom, Marta Povo, Jorge Ribalta, Cindy Sherman, Hannah Collins, Eiko Hosoe, Bernard Plossu, Ouka Leele, Larry Clark, and Ralph Gibson. There are also authors from the Tarragona region such as Pep Escoda, Marcel Pey, and Lluc Queralt.
The Tarragona Provincial Council and the Department of Culture are working on drafting the museological plan and the participatory project, which is expected to be tendered in 2026, and the usage plan, which should be completed before June 2027. These studies will form the basis for the architectural and museographic adaptation of the new MAMT.
