The serious railway accident registered Tuesday night in Gelida caused the total suspension of Rodalies and the closure of the AP-7 in Martorell on Wednesday, collapsing mobility in the Camp de Tarragona region.

The Wednesday commute was marked by severe mobility disruption stemming from the fatal accident on the R4 line in Gelida (Alt Penedès) on Tuesday night, when a train collided with a fallen retaining wall. The incident resulted in one fatality and 37 injuries, five of them serious.
Following the accident, Adif completely suspended rail circulation to ensure infrastructure safety. This has left the entire territory without Rodalies service, with Renfe recommending alternative transport and the Departament de Territori advising against unnecessary travel.

With the rail service halted and one of the country's main road arteries closed, mobility is severely constrained.

In the afternoon, starting at 18:00 hours, the total closure of the AP-7 in Martorell towards Tarragona was added. The Bombers (Firefighters) warned of possible instability in the slope and retaining wall supporting the highway above the accident site, forcing Trànsit to completely restrict the southbound direction for safety.
The Servei Català de Trànsit estimates that the road impact could affect up to 120,000 vehicles, including about 25,000 trucks. Alternative routes have been enabled, such as the A-2 combined with the C-15, the coastal C-32, or the B-24, returning to the AP-7 at Vilafranca del Penedès.
