Unemployment drops to 10% in the Tarragona region by the end of 2025

The province of Tarragona is the only one in Catalonia to register a decrease in the unemployment rate, with 10,800 fewer unemployed people.

The Tarragona demarcation recorded a drop in unemployment to 10% during the last quarter of 2025, being the only Catalan province with a significant decrease, according to INE data.

The unemployment rate in the Tarragona region decreased by 2.67 points compared to the same period the previous year, placing the total number of jobless people at 44,400, representing 10,800 fewer unemployed. This data, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), confirms a notable improvement.
Simultaneously, the number of employed people increased by 19,100, reaching a total of 399,400 workers. However, the employment increase is concentrated almost exclusively among men, with 22,200 more employed, while employed women experienced a decrease of 3,100 compared to the last quarter of 2024.

The Tarragona demarcation is the only Catalan province to register a decrease in unemployment, setting the rate at 10% at the end of the year.

By sector, construction was the main driver of job creation, adding 13,100 new hires, reaching 36,800. Industry also recorded significant increases, with 4,600 new workers, and agriculture, which added 5,900.
The only sector that lost workers was services, with a drop of 4,500 people, falling from 276,300 at the end of 2024 to 271,800 at the close of 2025.
