Despite the historic milestone of staying below 40,000 unemployed, the Tarragona region experienced a monthly unemployment increase of 1.23% compared to December 2025. This increase is notably higher than the 0.61% registered across Catalonia. However, the year-on-year comparison with January 2025 shows a significant reduction of 3.1% in the total number of people out of work.
The data published on Tuesday, February 3 also reflects the state of employment. As of January 31, 2026, the Camp de Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre totaled 339,748 affiliates to the Social Security. This represents an increase of 2.2% over twelve months, although it shows a drop of 2.05% compared to the previous month.
The services sector is the area that concentrates the highest number of unemployed people in the region, with 27,773 unemployed, and the one that suffered the most significant monthly increase.
Of the 38,881 total unemployed, 22,949 are women and 3,206 are people under 25 years old. The analysis by economic activity sectors shows that the services sector suffered the most significant increase in unemployment, with 498 new unemployed during the month of January.
In contrast, agriculture closed the month with 1,329 unemployed (six fewer than the previous month), industry maintained its figure (3,321), and construction registered a decrease of 63 people, standing at 3,002 unemployed.
