Unemployment rises in Tarragona and Ebro regions in December by 334 people

The 0.88% increase compared to November breaks the trend, although the total number of unemployed remains lower than the previous year.

The regions of Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre registered an increase of 334 unemployed people during December, bringing the total figure to 38,410 jobless individuals, according to data published on January 5 by the Ministry of Labor.

This 0.88% increase breaks the dynamic of previous months, although the overall figure of 38,410 unemployed is significantly lower than that recorded in the same month last year, December 2024, with 1,587 fewer people out of work (-3.97%). Of the total unemployed, 22,574 are women and 15,836 are men.

The upward trend in unemployment recorded in the Tarragona and Ebre regions during the last month of the year has also been replicated across the rest of the Catalan provinces.

By sector, Services continues to concentrate the majority of the unemployed with 27,275 people, followed by Industry (3,321), Construction (3,065), and Agriculture (1,335). All sectors experienced small increases in jobless individuals during the analyzed period.
Regarding employment, the region registered 346,863 affiliates to Social Security, a reduction of 0.9% compared to November, but a year-on-year increase of 2.16% compared to December 2024. A total of 16,166 contracts were created, of which 6,071 were permanent.
