The Torredembarra Local Police have charged a 23-year-old driver with three road safety crimes following a serious accident on the former T-214 link road during the early hours of January 1.

The investigation determined that the driver committed reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and criminally punishable excessive speeding. The incident occurred when the vehicle, carrying two occupants, left the road, hit an embankment, and rolled several times on the highway link in the Torredembarra municipality.

The driver registered a blood alcohol level of 1.85 g/l, multiplying the legal limit by more than six, while driving over 200 km/h in an urban area limited to 30 km/h.

The police report indicates that the man registered 1.85 g/l in the blood alcohol test, a rate more than six times the legal limit. Furthermore, the vehicle was traveling at a minimum of 130 km/h at the moment of impact, although it had previously exceeded 200 km/h on an urban road limited to 30 km/h, at night, and on a sharp curve.
Due to the brutal crash, the driver was left unconscious and trapped inside the car. Intervention by the Bombers de la Generalitat (Catalan Firefighters) was necessary to extricate him before he was transferred to the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona.
The driver suffered a head injury requiring stitches and a fracture to his right hand, while the co-driver sustained minor bruises. The case proceedings have been transferred to the Courts of El Vendrell.
