The Torredembarra City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya are coordinating the security and logistics plan to ensure the safe observation of the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026.

The Minister of Research and Universities, Núria Montserrat, met with the Mayor of Torredembarra, Vale Pino, and members of the municipal corporation to discuss preparations. The goal is to ensure comfortable viewing and bring science closer to the public, as this will be the first total solar eclipse visible from Catalonia since 1905.

The astronomical event of August 12, 2026, is a unique opportunity for scientific outreach and bringing science closer to the public.

Given the large expected influx of thousands of people into the path of totality, the Generalitat has identified about twenty recommended observation points. These locations meet criteria for safety, capacity, and accessibility, while also ensuring the protection of the natural environment and logistical viability.
In Torredembarra, the best place to observe the phenomenon will be the Roques Planes industrial estate, as it allows a clear view of the western horizon, crucial because the eclipse will occur in the evening with the sun low. Totality in Torredembarra will last 52 seconds, starting at 20:29:24 h and ending at 20:30:16 h.
