The Orquestra de Cambra Catalana, known for its dedication to chamber repertoire and the dissemination of Catalan musical heritage, arrives in Horta de Sant Joan to celebrate Music Day. The concert will take place in the unique setting of the Convent de Sant Salvador, an initiative by the Proto-fest festival from Tortosa, aiming to bring music to heritage and natural sites in the Terres de l’Ebre region.
Under the direction of Joan Pàmies, the program is titled Amorosa Primavera. This sonic proposal moves between dance, popular memory, and lyrical serenade, evoking the awakening of the senses and the emotional landscapes that herald the arrival of good weather. The repertoire connects tradition and modernity through four pieces exploring folk music and orchestral expressiveness.
The concert will open with Teresa Borràs's Rondó, op. 100, a work that evokes the change of season with a traditional language and subtle modern touches. Following this, Béla Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances will be performed, pieces full of vitality inspired by traditional melodies from Transylvania. Cruz López de Rego's work Melodies Vasques, premiered in 2019 in Barcelona, will offer sonic impressions inspired by Alfons Alonso's text Amorosa. Finally, Antonín Dvořák's Serenade for Strings in E major, op. 22 will conclude the program with one of his most emblematic works.
The Convent de Sant Salvador, an architectural complex from the 13th to 16th centuries located at the foot of Mount Santa Bàrbara, is one of the most emblematic sites in the Terra Alta region. Its harmony with the natural surroundings makes it an ideal setting to establish a dialogue between heritage, landscape, and music.
The Música a les Ermites cycle, established in 2024, aims to decentralize culture and bring quality musical proposals to rural areas. It is funded by the Provincial Council of Tarragona, the Institut d’Empreses Culturals, and the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music, with the collaboration of the Horta de Sant Joan Town Council.
