The Local and Regional Economics Chair (CELiR) at URV has presented a study estimating between 5,724 and 6,844 jobs generated by the healthcare system in Terres de l'Ebre in 2025.

The analysis quantifies for the first time the economic weight of the sector, representing between 7% and 7.3% of total employment. With a Gross Value Added (GVA) between 262 and 331 million euros, healthcare matches the weight of construction or hospitality.
The report focuses on Terra Alta, the oldest county, where territorial dispersion and distance to hospitals affect equity. Some municipalities are an hour away from the main hospital, hindering accessibility.
Key challenges identified include the lack of generational replacement in medicine and nursing, the need for a new reference hospital, and the implementation of Medicine studies to retain local talent.
