The agreement, signed by the ministers of Economy and Social Rights, Alícia Romero and Mònica Martínez, along with mayor Joaquim Paladella, will ensure the continuity of the service in a region with a high aging index. This payment in kind ends a dispute dating back to 2013, the year the center opened.
The residence, built with an investment of 6 million euros by the City Council, was supposed to have 60 public places funded by the Government. However, the center opened with half the committed places, leading the City Council to take legal action in 2017. Mayor Paladella even symbolically proposed the possible annexation to Aragon to denounce what he considered discriminatory treatment. Currently, the center has 60 places, 50 of which are public.
Meanwhile, in Tivissa, progress is being made on the construction of a new elderly care residence. The project, initiated in 2023, will be located in the former Civil Guard barracks. The company URCOTEX INMOBILIARIA has been awarded the demolition works for 99,416.42 euros, while the firm GGV Arquitectura drafted the basic and executive project for 524,773.21 euros.
Although the executive project is still in the drafting phase and some aspects remain to be defined, the total investment is estimated to be around 8 million euros. The new facility will have 60 care places and 20 day center places.
