The presence of the Pipa Aureolada, a dragonfly characterized by its intense red color and golden amber wingtip spots, has been confirmed within the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. This species, originally from Africa, has been gradually expanding its range across Southern Europe in recent years.
Climate change, marked by rising global temperatures and milder winters, is believed to have facilitated the species' northward migration. Its appearance in the region serves as evidence of this expansion.
The Pipa Aureolada crossed the Strait of Gibraltar in the early 21st century, with its first documented breeding occurrence in the Iberian Peninsula around 2007. Since then, its population has steadily grown and spread northwards. In Catalonia, it was first detected in Terra Alta in 2012 and is now commonly found in Spain, Portugal, and Southern France.
This dragonfly is recognized for its remarkable adaptability, inhabiting diverse environments across Africa and Asia, including rivers, humid tropical forests, savannas, and even karstic areas.
