The Bellpuig City Council, in Urgell, will launch the new five-fraction door-to-door waste collection system next Tuesday, February 24, distributing 8,786 bins.

The municipality of Bellpuig will start the new door-to-door waste collection system for five waste fractions next Tuesday, February 24, becoming the last town in Urgell to adopt this model. Furthermore, it will be the only one in the region to implement complete separation, as the others only use the system for organic and residual waste.
Over the next two weeks, the City Council will distribute the domestic kits at the municipal sports center, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each household will receive three bins and compostable bags for one year. In total, 8,786 bins will be distributed.

Currently, Bellpuig is the only municipality in Urgell without a door-to-door collection system, a situation that has favored an increase in so-called ‘garbage tourism’.

The new collection schedule establishes three weekly passes for organic waste, two for light packaging, and one for paper and cardboard, glass, and residual waste. Sanitary textile waste will be collected daily. Additionally, there will be a reinforced organic and paper service on weekends for shops and catering establishments.
The collection service contract, which lasts eight years and is valued at 4.2 million euros, was awarded to the company Jaume Oró SL during the plenary session last December. Mayor Jordi Estiarte has been responsible for leading the informational sessions for citizens.
